The Islamic State (IS)[4][6][45] (Arabic: الدولة الإسلامية al-Dawlah al-ʾIslāmiyyah), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS),[a] is an unrecognized state and a jihadist group. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world[46] and aspires to bring much of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its direct political control,[47] beginning with territory in the Levant region, which includes Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Cyprus, and an area in southern Turkey that includes Hatay.[48][49] The group has been officially designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United Nations Security Council,[50] the United States,[51] the United Kingdom,[52] Australia,[53] Canada,[54] Indonesia[55] and Saudi Arabia,[56] and has been widely described as a terrorist group by Western and other media sources.[17][57][58][59][60][61] The group, in its original form, was composed of and supported by a variety of Sunni insurgent groups, including its predecessor organizations, Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) (2003-2006), Mujahideen Shura Council (2006-2006) and the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) (2006-2013), other insurgent groups like Jeish al-Taiifa al-Mansoura, Jaysh al-Fatiheen, Jund al-Sahaba, Katbiyan Ansar Al-Tawhid wal Sunnah, and a number of Iraqi tribes that profess Sunni Islam. ISIS grew significantly as an organization owing to its participation in the Syrian Civil War and the strength of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Economic and political discrimination against Iraqi Sunnis since the fall of Saddam Hussein also helped it to gain support. At the height of the 2003-2011 Iraq War, its forerunners enjoyed a significant presence in the Iraqi governorates of Al Anbar, Ninawa, Kirkuk, most of Salah ad Din, parts of Babil, Diyala and Baghdad, and claimed Baqubah as a capital city.[62][63][64][65] In the ongoing Syrian Civil War, ISIS has a large presence in the Syrian governorates of Ar-Raqqah, Idlib and Aleppo.[66][67] ISIS has a record of brutal violence,[59][68] which is directed at Shia Muslims and Christians in particular.[69] It has at least 4,000 fighters in its ranks in Iraq[57] who, in addition to attacks on government and military targets, have claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed thousands of civilians.[70] ISIS had close links with al-Qaeda until 2014, but in February of that year, after an eight-month power struggle, al-Qaeda cut all ties with the group, reportedly for its brutality and "notorious intractability".[71][72] ISIS’s original aim was to establish a caliphate in the Sunni-majority regions of Iraq. Following its involvement in the Syrian Civil War, this expanded to include controlling Sunni-majority areas of Syria.[73] A caliphate was proclaimed on 29 June 2014, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi—now known as Amir al-Mu'minin Caliph Ibrahim—was named as its caliph, and the group was renamed the Islamic State.
ISIS - Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant also known as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or Islamic State of Iraq and ash-Sham, or Islamic State, is an Islamic extremist rebel group controlling territory in Iraq and Syria, with operations in Lebanon, Libya, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, and other areas of the Middle East, North Africa, West Africa,, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. ISIS is known in Arabic as ad-Dawlat al-Islāmiyah fī al-ʿIrāq wa sh-Shām, leading to the Arabic acronym Da'ish or DAESH. On 29 June 2014, the group proclaimed itself to be a worldwide caliphate with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi being named its caliph and also renamed itself Islamic State. ISIS the new name has been widely criticised and condemned, with the UN, various governments, and mainstream Muslim groups refusing to acknowledge it. ISIS as caliphate, it claims religious, political and military authority over all Muslims worldwide and that "the legality of all emirates, groups, states, and organisations, becomes null by the expansion of the khilāfah's (caliphate's) authority and arrival of its troops to their areas". The United Nations has held ISIS responsible for human rights abuses and war crimes, and Amnesty International has reported ethnic cleansing by the group on a "historic scale". The group has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Syria, Egypt, India, and Russia. Over 60 countries are directly or indirectly waging war against ISIL. For more information about ISIS, visit wikipedia. All the information on the video description are from wikipedia.

EXCLUSIVE: VICE News Meets Barack Obama: http://bit.ly/1wT03Bi The Islamic State, a hardline Sunni jihadist group that formerly had ties to al Qaeda, has conquered large swathes of Iraq and Syria. Previously known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the group has announced its intention to reestablish the caliphate and has declared its leader, the shadowy Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, as the caliph. The lightning advances the Islamic State made across Syria and Iraq in June shocked the world. But it's not just the group's military victories that have garnered attention — it's also the pace with which its members have begun to carve out a viable state. Flush with cash and US weapons seized during its advances in Iraq, the Islamic State's expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the first week of August alone, Islamic State fighters have taken over new areas in northern Iraq, encroaching on Kurdish territory and sending Christians and other minorities fleeing as reports of massacres emerged. VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access to the group in Iraq and Syria as the first and only journalist to document its inner workings. Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com 9726905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522 My name is Zahi Shaked In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide. My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land. Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity. In order to fulfill this "calling" in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters) Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, "glide" over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and "see" the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

The 2013 mass surveillance disclosures refer to media reports which revealed operational details of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) and its international partners' mass surveillance of foreign nationals and U.S. citizens. Aside from its partnership with federal agencies, the NSA-led surveillance involves extensive cooperation with foreign governments and intelligence agencies of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Germany, the latter classified in NSA documents as being both a partner and a target. Data collected in foreign countries by XKeyscore, for example, have landed directly on "President Obama's desk". Although disclosures of the general scope of the program were made in 2006,[2] a series of articles attracted significant public attention on 6 June 2013, when documents made public by Edward Snowden were first published simultaneously by The Washington Post and The Guardian. These documents included operational details of the "scale of domestic surveillance", according to journalist Glenn Greenwald.[3] Several days later, President Obama reassured the American public that stringent controls placed by the United States Congress and the FISA Court have ensured that "nobody" is listening to the phone calls of U.S. citizens.[4] On 14 June 2013, the main source of these disclosures, Edward Snowden, was formally charged by U.S. federal prosecutors for violating the Espionage Act of 1917 due to his unauthorized communication and theft of government property. Several weeks later, Snowden, who subsequently fled to Russia via Hong Kong, was granted temporary asylum by the Russian government. This contributed to a deterioration of Russia--United States relations. On 6 August, President Obama made a public appearance on national television where he reiterated that "We don't have a domestic spying program" and "There is no spying on Americans".[5] Despite Obama's reassurances, however, social movements such as Restore the Fourth have arisen as a form of protest against mass surveillance. Domestic spying programmes in other countries such as France, the UK, and India have also been brought to light. On the legal front, the EFF joined a coalition of diverse groups filing lawsuits against the NSA. Several human rights organizations have urged the Obama administration not to persecute, but to protect "whistleblower Snowden". These groups include Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Transparency International, and the Index on Censorship. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2013_mass_surveillance_disclosures

There are hopes that Iraq may have started on the path to stability. After all, civilisation as we know it once emerged from this region. Slowly, over the last several years, regional and national elections have been held, foreign troops have started to depart and the healing process looks to be underway. More optimistic Iraqi refugees have returned as security improves and foreign companies have begun to bid for the first post-war oil contracts. ********** This description is from WORLDTRAVELGUIDE. When you think of tourism, Iraq does not probably jump to mind. Despite that there is a large Iraq booth at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2011 at Excel in London with a reasonable number of delegates in attendance. Because of this ASIA Travel Tips.com sat down with Fadhil Al-Saaegh , Managing Director of Al-Rafidain Co. Ltd., to ask why Iraq has spent so much to promote the country when from an outsiders perspective there seems to be so much trouble. We ask whether it is safe, the status of tourism there at the moment, if there are any areas other than Baghdad that are attracting tourism and what the state of national monuments, treasures and other tourist sites are. Numerous airlines have also started to resume flights to different destinations in Iraq such as Baghdad, Basra and others. ASIA Travel Tips.com asks what the country is doing to attract more airlines etc. http://www.asiatraveltips.com

To learn who these people are, what they are fighting for, and who funds them, PRESS TV goes deep into their camps and brings you face to face interviews and exclusive footage. Many of those who were initially infatuated by the group’s promise of justice seem to be horrified and utterly disillusioned today. Everyone who is not us is the enemy and should be branded as infidel. This seems to be the prevailing ideology of the extreme Takfiri terrorists known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Their aim is said to be the establishment of an Islamic Caliphate. Shias, Christians, Sunnis, Yazidies, and whomsoever who dares to question them or raise his voice of dissent are persecuted under their highly distorted version of Islamic Sharia. Gruesome be-headings, crucifixions and mass executions are openly carried out under their iconic black flag which is more like a modern day equivalent of a Jolly Roger. At times, it seems like their victims are whoever who is unlucky enough to be in their path during their killing sprees. And yet they know how to manipulate social media and have succeeded in brainwashing some to join them in their “fight for justice”. In just a matter of days, the Al-Qaeda splinter group known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has seized major cities in Iraq, including Tikrit and Mosul. In doing so, the Islamic insurgents claim to have killed hundreds of Shiite Iraqi security forces. They now sit on the doorstep of the capital city of Baghdad. TVO Foreign Affairs Analyst Janice Stein, syndicated columnist and author Eric Margolis and York University Professor Thabit Abdullah sit down with Steve Paikin to discuss the terrorist group's offensive and goals, the ethnic tensions that spurred their growth, and what the response will be from countries that were at war in Iraq only three years ago.

For updates, follow on Twitter: @MweneGatete The Independent: The leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has made his first official public appearance, ordering Muslims to obey him after declaring himself the head of an Islamic caliphate. Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was seen leading prayers at the Grand Mosque in Mosul in the video, believed to have been taken on Friday 4th July 2014. The elusive leader has previously been pictured in few photographs and was thought to have gone into hiding. According to AFP, he told worshippers at the mosque: "I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me. "If you see that I am wrong, advise me and put me on the right track, and obey me as long as I obey God in you." The mosque was packed with men of all ages - some in traditional dress, some wearing football shirts and tracksuit bottoms. Mosul, one of Iraq's largest cities, has been under Isis control since June and the terrorist group now controls an area larger than Great Britain, straddling Iraq and Syria. Isis wants to be known just as the "Islamic State" and claims Baghdadi as the only legitimate successor to the Prophet Mohammed. He became head of al-Qa'ida in Iraq in 2010 after its former leaders were killed in an attack by US and Iraqi troops and is believed to be well-educated, with degrees in Islamic Studies. The Iraqi army has failed to slow the advance of Isis from northern Iraq, prompting the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to shake up the security forces. The chief of the army's ground forces and head of the federal police were removed from their posts on Saturday but no replacements have been named. Iraqi soldiers in the city of Mosul and across much of the country's north melted away in the face of the Isis, leaving Shia volunteers to attempt to defend their towns. The Prime Minister has already retired several senior army figures and vowed to bring the full weight of military law, including the execution of deserters, on anyone found to have fled battles. Isis extremists have destroyed at least 10 ancient shrines and Shia mosques in territory they have seized in northern Iraq, according images posted online and witnesses. The death toll of the group's bloody campaign cannot be counted but atrocities including summary killings, beheadings, crucifixions and massacres have been reported. The movement ascribes violently to Sunni Islam and considers Shias heretics, and the veneration of saints apostasy.

UN spokesman Rupert Colville says civilians make up the majority of the toll. He also says the death toll includes summary executions and extra-judicial killings of civilians, police, and soldiers who had stopped fighting. "This figure — which should be viewed very much as a minimum — includes a number of verified summary executions and extra-judicial killings of civilians, police, and soldiers who were hors (de) combat," media outlets quoted Colville as saying on Tuesday. The UN spokesman also says some 318 others were killed in terrorist attacks in Baghdad and southern Iraq. The world body says at least 757 people were killed in ISIL-fueled militancy in Nineveh, Diyala and Salahuddin Provinces. New pictures have emerged online of atrocities and mass killing of Iraqi soldiers and civilians at the hands of militants from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Recently, a similar gruesome video was released, purportedly showing members of the ISIL Takfiri group brutally killing Shia Muslims in drive-by shootings in Iraq. Syrian and Iraqi terrorist forces obtained significant numbers of tanks, trucks, and U.S.-origin Humvees in recent military operations in Iraq and those arms are being shipped to al Qaeda rebels in Syria, according to U.S. officials. U.S. intelligence agencies reported this week that photos of the equipment transfers were posted online by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as ISIS, the ultra-violent terror group that broke away from al Qaeda but shares its goals and philosophy. Pentagon spokesman Cmdr. Bill Speaks confirmed the weapons transfers and expressed concerns about the captured arms. "We're aware of reports of some equipment—namely Humvees—and the pictures that have been posted online," Speaks added that the loss of the equipment to the terrorist group is "really a matter for the Iraqi government to speak to publicly" because "it is their equipment." army of terrorists funded, armed and supported by Saudi Arabia, the Sunni caliphate of Iraq and the Levant, and NATO. Otherwise known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the caliphate and its partners in Riyadh and Doha have transplanted tens of thousands of murderous paramilitary jihadists from the battlefields of Syria to the killing fields of Iraq. For the fossilized monarchies of Saudi Arabia and Qatar the objective is to spread a pernicious version of Sunni Islam and thus defeat their longtime Shia Islam rivals, while in the West the financial and global elite are playing a long-running game of conquer and divide, a technique long used by the British Empire. F. William Engdahl and other historians have shown how the British Empire ruthlessly conquered the Arab Middle East, an effort spurred on when it realized oil would eclipse coal as the dominant energy source in the 20th century. This has sparked a new wave of outrage throughout the world, and in his September 10 Address to the Nation, President Barack Obama vowed to "degrade and ultimately destroy" ISIS, outlining a war plan that involves air strikes and sending more troops to Iraq. On the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 attack, has the United States learned anything from the War on Terror, or is it doomed to repeat the same mistakes? Obama says the fight against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) will be different than the two wars started by Bush. But Muslims looked at with suspicion around the world are wondering, how different will their treatment be? What is the impact of increasing surveillance of Muslim communities, banning Islamic dress and equating a religion with a threat? Do the counter-terror measures adopted by the US, Britain and France erode the very democratic principles considered the pillars of a "free" society? Marwan Bishara asks what happens when the "war on terror" turns inward, and prolonged military action abroad turns into a culture of fear at home. In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world[66] and aspires to bring most of the Muslim-inhabited regions of the world under its political control[67] beginning with Iraq, Syria and other territories in the Levant region which include Jordan, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Cyprus and part of southern Turkey.[68] It has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, and has been described by the United Nations[69] and Western and Middle Eastern media as a terrorist group and by other countries such as Colombia[70] as a fundamentalist and extremist organization. The United Nations and Amnesty International have accused the group of grave human rights abuses. On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Often referred to as 9/11, the attacks resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S. initiatives to combat terrorism and defining the presidency of George W. Bush. Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. Within the proposed motives for the alternative stories of September 11th, 2001 we find various individuals, groups, organizations, and secret societies reported as being the culprits behind the attacks. These individuals, groups, organizations, and secret societies include but are not limited to: George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Rudy Giuliani, Larry Silverstein, high ranking officials in the U.S. Government, the military industrial complex, Freemasons, The Global Elite, Zionist, The Global Bankers, Reptilian Shape Shifters, The Bilderbergs, Neo-Cons, N.A.S.A., Nazis, The F.B.I, The C.I.A., Mossad, Israeli Agents, the British Royal Family, Skull and Bones, The United Nations, The Rockefellers, The Rothschilds, ad infinitum. This book "The 911 Fear-Based Mind Control Program" takes a critical look at the psychological impact of September 11th, 2001. The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11)[nb 1] were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said the Baghdad government would work with Kurdish authorities to liberate the northern province of Nineveh from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants. During his first visit to the Kurdistan region since becoming Prime Minister last year, Abadi said Baghdad and Erbil faced a common enemy and would improve ties to help confront the threat. "Our visit to Erbil today is to coordinate and cooperate on a joint plan to liberate the people of Nineveh," Abadi said at a joint news conference with Kurdish President Massoud Barzani on April 6. Abadi declined to lay out a timetable for the plan to retake Nineveh, of which Mosul is capital, in order not to lose the "element of surprise". The trip comes less than a week after ISIL militants were driven out of the city of Tikrit by Iraqi forces including Shi'ite militia, backed by coalition air strikes. Asked about reported abuses by the Shi'ite militia, who are grouped together as Popular Mobilisation Committees or Hashid Shaabi, Abadi said it was not fair to level the accusation at the entire force. "There's a small group that attempts to attach itself to the Hahsid Shaabi and attack civilians and their belongings and offend the Hahsid Shaabi," Abadi said. "Our measures are to arrest these people and present them to court and we have indeed arrested."

Subtitulado por Melvecs | La Verdad Nos Espera The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL /ˈaɪsəl/) is a jihadist rebel group that controls territory in Iraq and Syria and also operates in eastern Libya, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, and other areas of the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The group's Arabic name is transliterated as ad-Dawlah al-Islāmīyah fī al-‘Irāq wash-Shām leading to the Arabic acronym Da‘ish or DAESH (Arabic pronunciation: da:ʕeʃ). The name is also commonly translated as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria or Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS /ˈaɪsɪs/). In June 2014 ,the group renamed itself the Islamic State (IS), but the new name has been widely criticized and condemned, with the UN, various governments, and mainstream Muslim groups refusing to use it. The United Nations has held ISIL responsible for human rights abuses and war crimes, and Amnesty International has reported ethnic cleansing by the group on a "historic scale". The group has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, India, and Russia. Over 60 countries are directly or indirectly waging war against ISIL. Yarmouk is now almost completely under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Hundreds of people have managed to escape, but many more remain trapped. Al Jazeera's Stefanie Dekker reports.
The Afghan Taliban have published a descriptive biography of Mullah Omar, their "charismatic" supreme leader, in a move apparently aimed at countering the influence of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group within its ranks. The biography, posted just on Sunday on the Taliban's main website to commemorate Omar's 19th year as supreme leader, described him as being actively involved in "jihadi activities", dispelling speculation that he had died. The Taliban have reportedly seen defections to the ISIL in recent months, with some rebels expressing their disaffection with the one-eyed warrior-cleric who has not been seen since the 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan. Despite being "regularly tracked by the enemy, no major change and disruption has been observed in the routine works of [Omar] in... organising the jihadi activities as the leader of the Islamic Emirate," the biography said. "He keenly follows and inspects the... activities against the brutal infidel foreign invaders." Lionising the "charismatic personality", the biography also contained several anecdotes of battlefield valour and described the RPG-7 grenade launcher as Omar's "preferred weapon of choice". Surprising details The withdrawn, remote figure has not made a public appearance since the 2001 invasion, and has hardly ever been photographed. The US State Department - which has a $10m bounty on Omar's head - only describes him as a tall male with a shrapnel wound to the right eye. The Taliban's surprise move to release his richly-detailed biography, even describing his personal and family life, took security analysts by surprise. "The Taliban have posted Omar's biography for several strategic reasons - the most important of which is to counter Daesh influence in their ranks," said Ahmad Sayedi, an expert on the Taliban, alluding to the Arabic abbreviation for ISIL. "This announcement is also meant to show that Omar is alive and well and still in control as the supreme leader of the Taliban." In the past 13 years, Omar has stayed completely out of the public eye amid growing power struggles within the Taliban and fears of ISIL's influence in their ranks as an ideological rival. The Afghan government has also raised the ominous prospect of ISIL making inroads into the country, though the group that has taken over swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria has never formally acknowledged having a presence in Afghanistan.
About 2,000 residents of a Palestinian refugee camp in the Syrian capital have fled amid shelling by government forces and clashes between Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) and Palestinian fighters, activists and state TV have said. Al Jazeera's Stefanie Dekker reports from Beirut, Lebanon.
Growing public opinion believes that the United States must be held accountable for the ongoing crisis in Iraq, where Takfiri militants are carrying out acts of terror and committing atrocities against the people. The so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Takfiri terrorist group, currently operating in Iraq, enjoys the support of hegemonic powers, particularly the US. The US administration claims that it is against what is happening in Iraq and that they want to support Iraq but these are the very reasons behind the catastrophe and the disaster in Iraq. The crisis in Iraq is fuelled by mass propaganda from countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar, and western powers, that it is the result of a Sunni-Shia rift. Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in fierce clashes with the ISIL terrorists, who have overrun parts of the Arab country and have announced a so-called Islamic caliphate. ISIL militancy is not limited to Iraq as the al-Qaeda-inspired group is also operating in neighbouring Syria at the same time. The US has been assisting terrorists in Syria but claiming to condemn them elsewhere in the world, including Iraq. "This programme was produced by Aparat Ltd for Press TV"
More gruesome videos have been released showing atrocities of members of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terror group in Iraq. The videos posted on a militant website show several Iraqi men in plain clothes and army uniforms who have been captured by the militants. The videos include a scene where militants belonging to the Takfiri group kill an Iraqi officer who refuses to repeat slogans chanted by them. Takfiri militants from the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have recently been carrying out acts of terror in Iraq, taking over a number of cities and committing atrocities against the people. The ISIL militants have raided several towns on a road to the capital, Baghdad, after they took control of Mosul, some 400 kilometres northwest of Baghdad, about a week ago. This is designed to protect key parts of the country from attacks by criminal or terrorist organisations, such as the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). NATO Channel visited the country to find out how the project will protect a country that has ISIL fighters right on its border. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL /ˈaɪsəl/) is a jihadist rebel group that controls territory in Iraq and Syria and also operates in eastern Libya, the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt, and other areas of the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The “Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL), which is the resulting entity from the merger of al-Qaeda in Iraq and Syria, is seen in this video intercepting three trucks in Iraq heading to Syria. The three truck drivers, one of whom is from Tartous, are then questioned whether they’re Sunnis or Shiites (Shias). Then the hardline Wahhabi jihadist proceeds to ask them about the number of kneelings a Muslim is supposed to perform at dawn, noon, and evening prayers. After they apparently failed in answering correctly, they are taken and shot execution-style by the jihadists who, as usual, scream “Allahu Akbar!” with jubilation. The video ends with a statement threatening the “Armies of the Cross in Dabiq” to be burnt by the fire whose spark was ignited in Iraq. Dabiq is a town near Aleppo where the battle of Marj Dabiq took place on August 24, 1516, and it ended up in a decisive victory of the Ottoman Empire over the Mamluk Sultanate.

Egyptian Military forces hunting down Ansar Bait al-Maqdis militants 2/4/2015 (Arabic: أنصار بيت المقدس Anṣār Bayt al-Maqdis,"Supporters of the Holy House"), or Ansar Jerusalem ("Supporters of Jerusalem") was the name of a Terrorist group based in Egypt; many Sinai-based members swore allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Ansar Bait al-Maqdis emerged as an extremist militant group after the Egyptian revolution in 2011, with its operations increasing in the wake of the Egyptian Revolution of 2013 and the overthrow of Mohamed Morsi. The group was believed to have been the main group behind the militant activity in the Sinai. The group recruited Bedouins as well as other Egyptians and people of other nationalities. During 2014, the group sent emissaries to ISIL in Syria seek financial support, weapons and tactical advice. On 10 November 2014, many members of the group took an oath of allegiance to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.[16] Following this pledge, ISIL supporters within the group renamed it Wilayat Sinai (Province of Sinai), an official arm of ISIL in the region .

A Turkish man who is accused of joining the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has told court in a landmark case that he went to Syria not to fight, but "to live in a place governed under Sharia law." The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office filed a court case in Ankara April 4 against Musa Göktaş for allegedly joining a terrorist group in Syria, according to Anadolu Agency. The 38-year-old suspect, the first Turkish citizen who was arrested for joining ISIL, went to Syria along with his two children in October 2014 and later returned to Turkey after a four-month long stay. Prosecutor Derda Gökmen pleaded with the court to punish Göktaş on charges of joining a terrorist group. Göktaş, however, denied all charges and said that he only went to Syria "to live in a place governed under Sharia law," and not to fight alongside any terrorist group, the report said. Turkey shares an 800-kilometer long border with Syria. Thousands of people from all over the world are believed to have joined militants, including those of ISIL, in Syria and Iraq. Göktaş reportedly returned to Turkey to sell his house and take his wife to bring her to northern Syria. His 15-year-old twin sons stayed in an ISIL-controlled town of Turkey's war-torn neighbor.

The President has launched a sustained, long-term military campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. But did he have constitutional power to do so? The Constitution carefully divides the war powers of the United States between Congress and the President. Article II provides that "The President shall be Commander in Chief." But Article I provides that "The Congress shall have Power ... To Declare War." In this case, Congress has not declared war; the President ordered the attacks unilaterally. Did he exceed his authority and violate the Constitution?

Iraqi forces battling the Islamic State الدولة الإسلامية في العراق والشام of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group for control of the northern town of Tikrit have encountered setbacks, with bombs and booby-traps slowing their advance. "A rapid advance in a city where the ground is littered with bombs and booby-traps is too tough to achieve," said Mayor Osama al-Tikriti. Security forces said on Sunday that they were slowly rolling into the city's western area with the help of US-led airstrikes despite Shia militias boycotting the offensive. "There is some resistance from the enemy, but it's mainly due to the booby-traps set up on the roads, in the houses, shops and government facilities," Brigadier-General Thamer Mohamed told the Reuters news agency. "As you can see, our units are advancing and we have air support." The security forces and Shia militias, who provided the largest number of fighters, began their offensive on 2 March 2015 but halted operations after two weeks due to heavy casualties and tensions within the government and with US officials over Iran's prominent role. The battle remains slow-going. At least 17 security personnel have been killed in fighting and another 100 wounded around Tikrit since Thursday when the US airstrikes began. The Iraqi military says it's in the final stages of an operation to recapture Tikrit from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. Government forces have been helped by air strikes on the northern city, from the United States. Tikrit has been in the hands of ISIL since last June. Al Jazeera's Gerald Tan reports.
Pentagon: Offensive to take Tikrit from ISIL under way http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2015/03/tikrit-offensive-isil-150327200838026.html The offensive to retake the Iraqi city of Tikrit from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant ISIS/ISIL has restarted, the Pentagon said. The announcement came after two days of US-led coalition air strikes and the withdrawal of Iranian-backed militias from fighting. A US spokesman called the departure of three Iranian-backed militia groups a "welcome" development, but some militias said they had withdrawn in protest at US involvement. Colonel Steve Warren said there were three air strikes on Friday in support of the operation in Tikrit, and even without the Shia militias, about 4,000 Iraqi troops and Shia volunteer fighters were taking part in the offensive, which he said was enough combat power to get the job done. “Iraqi Security Forces are beginning to maneuver into the city, in an effort to push ISIL out of Tikrit,” Warren told reporters at a Pentagon briefing. The Pentagon estimated the number of ISIL fighters still holding the centre of Tikrit to be in the hundreds. “Those Shia militias that are linked to, infiltrated by, or otherwise under the influence of Iran are completely sidelined,” Warren said, “So their departure from the battlefield is welcome.” Warren said the decision by the Iraqi government to switch from Iranian support to US coalition support in retaking Tikrit, was based on an ineffective strategy that was being directed by Iranian advisers, and had resulted in a stalled offensive. U.S. Airstrikes on ISIS in Tikrit Prompt Boycott by Shiite Fighters http://nyti.ms/1D1lKBO However, the withdrawal of Iranian-led Shiite militias was one of the preconditions for the Americans to join the fight against the Islamic State in Tikrit, the sudden departure of three of the major groups risked leaving the Iraqi ground forces short-handed, especially if other Shiite militiamen also abandoned the fight.

The Siasat Daily 2015-04-09Iraq (/ɪˈræk/ or i/ɪˈrɑːk/; Arabic: العراق al-‘Irāq); officially the Republic of Iraq (Arabic:
جمهورية العراق (help·info) Jumhūriyyat al-‘Irāq), is a country in Western Asia spanning most of the northwestern end of the Zagros mountain range, the eastern part of the Syrian Desert and the northern part of the Arabian Desert.
Iraq borders Syria to the northwest, Turkey to the north, Iran to the east, Jordan to the southwest and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to the south. Iraq has a narrow section of coastline measuring 58 km (36 mi) on the northern Persian Gulf. The capital city, Baghdad is in the center-east of the country.
Two major rivers, the Tigris and Euphrates, run through the center of Iraq, flowing from northwest to southeast. These provide Iraq with agriculturally capable land and contrast with the steppe and desert landscape that covers most of Western Asia.
Historically, Iraq was the center of the Abbasid Arabic Islamic Empire. Iraq has been known to the west by the Greek toponym 'Mesopotamia' (Land between the rivers) and has been home to continuous successive civilizations since the 6th millennium BC. The region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers is often referred to as the cradle of civilization and the birthplace of writing, law and the wheel. At different periods in its history, Iraq was the center of the indigenous Akkadian, Sumerian, Assyrian, Babylonian, and Abbasid empires. It was also part of the Achaemenid, Hellenistic, Parthian, Sassanid, Roman, Rashidun, Umayyad, Mongol, Safavid, Afsharid, and Ottoman empires, and under British control as a League of Nations mandate.
The Syrian people (Arabic: الشعب السوري / ALA-LC: al-sha‘ab al-Sūrī) are the inhabitants and citizens of Syria and are, overall an indigenous Eastern Mediterranean people. While modern-day Syrians are commonly described as Arabs by virtue of their modern-day language and bonds to Arab culture and history, they are, in fact, largely a blend of the various Aramaic speaking groups indigenous to the region who were Arabized when Muslim Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula arrived and settled following the Arab expansion. Syrians are tied together by geography, linguistic heritage, religion, and similar Eastern Mediterranean ethnicities. Most Syrians reside primarily in Syria; however 17 million Syrians live outside of Syria and they stay connected to their cultural roots by watching Syrian satellite television, listening to Syrian music and preparing Syrian cuisine.
Damascus, the capital of Syria, is one of the most continuously inhabited cities in the world (for 8000 years straight, Syrians inhabited Damascus), and a large percentage of Damascenes are the descendents of the early inhabitants of Damascus.
